Guest Speakers

So while in Sports Administration we are lucky enough to sit in on speakers who talk to us about various interesting topics within the Sports Studies field. Our first guest speaker was Peggy Feehery from the career services program here at Reinhardt. She had a lot of interesting view points. She talked about how Facebook and other social networking plays a role in finding a career in the future and how to use these outposts to form valuable relationships to take with you to the career world. She also mentioned setting up a professional resume for yourself and really marketing and networking yourself through your resume and interviews by sharing information about your future plans and how you are an asset to the companies you apply to even just out of college. The Second guest speaker we met with was Bill Popp also a member of the Reinhardt staff as Athletic director. He gave us a little background on himself he started at Oglethorpe as a volunteer after college and then became the first athletic director at Reinhardt. He stressed the importance of getting a masters degree and also realizing that as a coach you will have to budget and recruit athletes which takes time. He also mentioned the facilities at Reinhardt and how things will be updated for the incoming football team which was fascinating. Vic Mitchell was our last guest speaker and he serves as Shorter's Women's Basketball Coach. He actually used to work at Reinhardt and he filled us in on his transformation as a coach after that opportunity. He talked about accepting an entry level position after college and how that will help you gain experience even though it will be long hours for little pay. He taught us that it will give us something to put on our resume and teach us coaching lessons. All these speakers were very interesting and I learned a lot from each and every one of them.
